De gebeurtenissen leken een beetje all over the place.

This is the worst book I have ever read. Poorly written all around - characters, dialogue, plot. A truly painful read.
So I was kind of conflicted about this book... I struggled to get through the beginning the premise was interesting and the cover art is absolutely gorgeous! So basically even reading this book was a pretty easy decision. So when it comes to stars I give this book a 3.5 out of 5. I had to force myself to get to the middle of this novel when it finally picked up enough for me to not be able to put it down. The last hundred pages I finished in about twenty minutes because I was that absorbed.
Anyways I think there was just way to much information packed in this book, there were a lot of terms used that weren't explained until further on in this book so I had to do a lot of flipping back and forth. I really liked this book, I did. I just didn't appreciate all the confusion in the first part of it.
I really liked Gena Showalter's writing style. And Ten Lockwood as a character I liked her, but at the same time I kind of didn't. She didn't experience as much character development as I would have liked.... She... she's interesting. She's strong, but at the same time I couldn't help but think so is every single heroine ever written... So I was expecting something different about Ten, and seriously the only thing different I got was her obsession with numbers!!!! Come on here authors! Give me a character that's different!!! (I seriously think you could put Ten in the Hunger Games and minus the obsession with numbers she would pretty much be the same as Katniss Everdeen)
The love triangle here is also... interesting. Very interesting. There is a bit of instalove here, however at the same time there wasn't? I like love triangles that aren't drawn out for very long and this one wasn't at all. Also the end left a couple of surprises, one that I am still mourning. (silent internal sobbing....) I definitely recommend this book, the begging doesn't leave much to be desired but once you reach the middle this book is incredibly worth the read! Just be prepared though, there isn't much of a wow this book stayed with me factor. It keeps you occupied for a couple hours though!

I was really excited to read this book. A universe where you had to choose which type of life you wanted to lead and which people you would be associated with? A main character who struggles to fit herself into the moulds that go along with each other these worlds? Possibly the most interesting book cover I have seen in a while? Sign me up, because that sounds like my type of book.
Except that wasn't what it really turned out to be about at all. It started out that way, but then the love triangle emerges. I was prepared for that - the synopsis made it pretty clear. But that ended up being what the whole thing revolved around. It became less about Ten being a strong character who didn't want to label herself, to Ten not being able to pick which boy (and along with them, which universe) she wanted. What had begun as strength turned into not being able to to pick who she cared about more, with some stubbornness thrown in.
There were some other issues that came up for me with this one as well. The characters seemed two-dimensional, and just weren't really developed beyond their stereotypes. It also seemed like a lot of random violence that seemed to spring out of nowhere, perhaps because there wasn't a whole lot of back story to explain why both realms were so interested in this one girl.
On the plus side, the realms and universe the book takes place in is very well developed, and absolutely fascinating. I did enjoy discovering the differences in the two realms and the people who belonged to them. Some serious time was definitely put into this part. I just wish that Ten's story and the other characters had been better developed.

What if this life is just the beginning. What if in the next life, the choice you make determines where you will live, the rules you live by, your job, and every part of your second life is based on your choice. One choice that determines everything. This is the life that Tenley “Ten” lives in.
Ten’s parents have placed her in an asylum to be tortured to choose their side of the next life, but Ten knows that this kind of choice requires a lot of thought and consideration. Both sides want Ten for her extraordinary skills. Both sides have their benefits and their downfalls.
I found the book to be a new take on a story as old as time. The battle between light and dark, perceived goodness and evil. It was truly refreshing and I felt like it contained a lot of strong themes and some religious undertones.
The characters are interesting, funny, smart, and adventurous. While some may think that the decision is an easy one to make, Ten understands that one decision can change your life and that like a tattoo, you have to live with it forever. The gravity of the decision and how much it ways on her, makes her a realistic character, one that is easy to identify with and some one that I would be friends with. I am looking forward to finishing this series and learning which faction Tenley pledges herself to, and where her story goes from here.

Tenley żyje w świecie, gdzie śmierć nie oznacza końca. To drugie życie jest równie ważne, jeśli nie ważniejsze, niż pierwsze. Dlatego decyzja, którą ze stron wybrać, należy do tych najważniejszych. Trojka i Miriada nieustannie walczą o to, by zwerbować w swoje szeregi jak największą liczbę osób. I skąd wiadomo,
że właśnie ta będzie właściwa?
