4 solid stars for my first Jennifer McMahon experience. I genuinely really enjoyed the theme of this book and I devoured it in 3 days. There were a few major twists that I didn’t see coming! I love how the timeline jumps seamlessly back and forth, which is something McMahon is apparently good at, or so I’ve heard. I now need to get my hands on her other books!

What a wild ride! I loved the supernatural element. I truly didn't know what was going to happen next. McMahon did an amazing job of entwining past and present. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but this one had twist after twist. While it was slow in the beginning, I highly recommend. Thank you to NetGalley, Jennifer McMahon, and Scout Press of Simon and Schuster, Inc. for the ARC. This was my first McMahon book and certainly won't be my last!
A family living on an unregulated mental institution compound- what’s not to love? An homage to Mary Shelley with some twisty turns that kept me engaged. I wasn’t blown away with the second story, but I did enjoy the creepiness and haunting isolation.
Ideally I'd give this book 3.5 stars. It wasn't bad by any means, but it wasn't nearly as good as some of the other books I've read by the author. I definitely preferred the parts of the story with the young children, and I'd rather have explored more of that than the scenes set in the present day.
