This had all the ingredients for a book I'd enjoy, but I couldn't get immersed in it at all, sadly.
That was my first book by Jennifer McMahon and that would definitely not be my last.
I can't I didn't see some of the twist coming, because I did, but the read was so good that it didn't matters.
The ending might not work for everybody. It's a bit of a letdown, then... twist ! Some might get stuck with the letdown feeling.
It would make a terrific tv series, but Hollywood would be able to spoil it like they spoil every adaptations.

4,25/5! Not perfect but a damn good read.
I'll keep it short: I liked the characters, the plot, and the atmosphere a lot.
I was less of a fan of how underused Eric was as a character (though lots of the 1978 chapters were from Vi's perspective, so how would she have known?), that weird 'thing' between Vi and Iris, and the suddenness of the plot twist and ending.
And about that plot twist... While I saw that something was coming from the earlier chapters on, I did not expect THIS. That Lizzy was Iris? Yeah, clearly. But that Vi was Patient S? No. That Vi rescued the missing girls rather than killing them? Also no. I thought she'd snapped, had become lost in her psychosis. In that vein I did find the initial ending (Vi saving Lauren) odd, but that afterword? Yes, much more fitting with the unhinged nature of the Monster. Love it.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I was not able to guess the ending.
I liked the twists in this, but it was a little hard to get into
A gothic thriller loosely based on Frankenstein? Yeah, this is going in the Mary Shelley shrine in my home library. A really interesting exploration of some of Frankenstein’s questions, with a great third act twist.
Thank you to the publisher for a copy, which I won via Goodreads giveaway.

Some pretty good twists and turns. The ending was...kinda satisfying? Not sure if I love it, but the ride there was pretty exciting.

There were plenty of twists and turns throughout that kept me guessing and waiting to find out what would happen next! From the perspective of the "weird kids" in town and their experiences learning about their family secrets. I really loved this book and read it quickly because I couldn't put it down!
