Another very readable story .. love the use of puzzles and language .. and it added a few twists and turns.
Allowing the story to unfold was easy to do and I did like the setting. Trouble in academia, antiquarian book secrets and most of all the love of language and words evolving over time .. all this and more is wound into this missing person/ murder mystery.

If you are not absolutely enamored of the English language and its history…perhaps choose something else. This novel has a ponderous and plodding plot and is peppered with “side bars” and tangents that only an English major with a speciality in Old English and a nerd girl crush on Chaucer and Shakespeare could possibly enjoy.   I enjoyed it. I doubt it will sell well.

Very atmospheric. I enjoyed the characters and the setting, with the mystery taking a backseat to those.

Unfortunately, it was not a pleasant read. Lots of lovely new words and their meanings interrupted the flow. They didn’t work for me as part of a work of fiction.
