This was a beautifully written book! Ida, Always, is about two polar bears, Ida and Gus, who are best friends. They play, cuddle, and listen to the city together. Every day was the same, until Ida did not come out to play. Gus found out that Ida was sick, and that Ida would eventually die. They spent lots of time together, cherishing their last moments together, until Ida passed away. Gus still looked and wondered where Ida went, but he knows that Ida will always be there. I would offer this in in my library as a book for all students. This could be paired with a lesson on true friendship or death with either a small group or a conversation one-on-one with a student.

It's fictionalized reality, a touch of anthropomorphism. Two polar bears at a zoo and one becomes sick. The ill bear does die and the other bear has to deal with the death of his friend.

Reviewed from a library copy.

Such a beautiful, sweet picture book. Would be a perfect read for a little person (or a big person) who is trying to understand and cope with a loved one's death.

This is such a sweet picture book to help explain the tough roller coaster of emotions one might feel when coping with the death of a loved one. It's honest in that grief is tough and painful, but has a hopeful ending and a touching message about your loved one still being with you, even if you can't see them.

So good and so much crying while reading it. It's a lovely look at friendship and grief. I will be very grateful for it whenever my kids experience a loss. But dang that made me cry so much.

Absolutely the first time I've cried while reading a book to my children. This is a beautiful story of friendship and loss. Love it. Love it. Love it.

This is one of my all-time favorite picture books!! Such a beautiful book, that I can’t read all the way through without crying. I have it featured on my book shelf, cover facing out. Everyone that has been to my house, asks about it and reads it. Then, we cry together, and talk about how amazing the story is! So much Love!
