Guys- This was great. I loved all the characters ( HARRY) and even the side characters that kept making re-accruing pop ups even when u hated the character ( I’m looking at you Don and Max ).
I think huge parts of this was a great depiction of what 1950-70’s female movies stars had to experience or sacrifice in order to make it big and that beauty was a dangerous weapon if utilized appropriately.
I will say the husbands get way too much run time at points and the last 1/4 of the book is so packed full of plot but it doesn’t necessarily feel rushed as the whole point of the book was following her progression as a movie star and by that point in the book she was retired.
Overall it was gut wrenchingly beautiful and heartbreaking and a drama filled read that captures your attention.

Big breath, okay.

I'm writing this after just finishing this incredible novel and there are still tears drying on my face because THAT ENDING.

If I could rate higher than 5 stars I would, this story is beautiful. Jenkins Reid has crafted a suite of characters that are so completely human, complex and evolving, lovable and flawed. A story of love in all its forms, of survival and the way the wounds of our childhood stay with us. Of the pain of living in hiding and in fear. Of a life filled with love, struggle, and loss.

Evelyn Hugo is a bisexual icon and my heart hurts for her and the many real people who lived and continue to live now in hiding. As a bi+ queer myself, this was so powerful that it left me teary. Don't we all want to find our Harry and Celia?

Lastly, I love the way Jenkins Reid writes Evelyn telling her story. It reads like someone sharing their truths and, in its telling, reveals even more about Evelyn's incredible character.

100/10 would recommend!

This book is mesmerizing from start to finish. I loved the old Hollywood references, the voice Jenkins Reid gave to Evelyn, and how it felt accurate to the character and the time she would have lived in without feeling dated or out of touch. I really couldn't put it down.

albeit a somewhat predictable ending this book still manages to pull at your heart strings the entire way through. it has wonderful representation and references to history especially LGBTQ history. Evelyn is a very complicated character but she is beautifully written in a way that makes her both lovable and dislikable at the same time. overall it is a beautiful book with beautiful lessons. i wish we had gotten to dive more into her childhood and not center the book around only her husband but after all isn’t that the point.

I enjoyed her various love stories in all their forms. I was not a fan of the ending and I am sensitive to the topic of cheating so this wasn't my thing.
