I read Huck Finn in an English class in 7th grade. It made zero impression on me and I don't remember any of it.

This book I will remember.

A retelling of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn from the slave Jim's perspective. I don't remember much about the original book, but Jim as the main character is good. He escaped and is doing whatever it takes to buy his family back.

Timing!  This arrived on my final day of isolation with covid, so I got straight into it - when I could wrestle it away from my son!  Such intelligent commentary about race.  I'm now looking for Everett's back-catalogue, starting with Erasure, because I adored the film version "American Fiction".  It is so believably written, BUT I don't want to believe that African-Americans ever lived with this level of bigotry and mistrust.
