A thrill ride from start to finish, although you may be wary of taking the elevator (lift for us Brits) for a while!

The tension in this book is constantly ramped up as it becomes more and more clear that someone is targeting the elevators in New York, a city that relies on them more than most. Being trapped on one as you loose all control over it is a terrifying prospect.

Linwood Barclay does a terrific job of showing the effect on not only those in the elevators and their families, but also those who have to rely on them every day because they live or work in a tall building, or for health reasons.

The characters within the story were all interesting and well developed, and we learn a lot about each of them, which is surprising given how many there are.

There are a number of times I thought I had figured out who was behind the terror, but I was kept guessing right until the big reveal.

Just don’t read it while you are in an elevator!

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

Whiplash narrative drive. You'll consider taking the stairs ALWAYS.

I received an ARC of this book.
Fast paced and action fueled, this book keeps the heart pumping. Each chapter is told from a different character’s perspective, each seemingly uninvolved but as we reach the heart stopping climax, we find out just how linked their stories are.
A mayor wanting to do the right thing for his city, but not necessarily in the right way. A reporter with a grudge against the mayor. A detective with PTSD. A daughter, angry at her mother. A son, belittled by his father. What links them? How do their stories entwine?
Elevator accidents are rare so three within three days is unheard of. It’s enough to terrify a city that is known for being a mostly vertical one. How do you protect members of the public when you don’t know the why or the when? There is so much going on in this book and the connections can be terrifying.
This book is great for fans of action and thriller novels.
