I thought this was reasonably well-crafted but it really wasn't my cup of tea, and I thought it needed more build-up and tension to really build the proper gothic atmosphere.

I feel weird not liking this book a lot, because it started out great with really interesting characters and a mystery plot, but my problem is that: nothing quite happened in this book and the mystery horror element wasn't "scary" enough.

Lots of lovely imagery from various time periods. Didn’t get especially attached to the characters. I wish we had more time with spooky girl and the surrounding mysterious happenings, but the book is pretty short and gives just enough to tantalize and put some pieces together.

Very interesting format: interviews with the band and some others for a documentary, decades later. The audiobook worked especially well for this, as the different voice actors helped me keep track of who’s who.

I couldn’t keep all the guys straight honestly. There were a ton of POVs for such a short book, and they felt interchangeable. It also took a while to build to the horror element, and even then it was so flash in the pan, and gone.

Not a bad short read - just not anything I’d write home about.

I expected something scarier, but otherwise the story was thoroughly enjoyable and captivating.

Well that was creepy. A great paranormal story told through the characters being interviewed years later. I actually got the goosebumps in a few parts. I'm excited to see how Ms Hand's other books are.

I was really excited to read something by Elizabeth Hand and while this was good - it was anything spectacular. I was hopeful this would be a good thriller, but instead it was slow in the beginning and didn’t provide a lot of follow through in the end. It upheld a sense of mystery but not enough for me to feel enamored by it.
