Cute, cheesy, very 2010s. Fun read but a little too elementary and predictable even for my cheesball-loving heart. Could really tell it was based on the authors just from the kind of random details about Pittsburgh.

this book was... something i read! i can't really say much more than that. i think upon reflection that this book isn't for me. i'm not the target audience, and that's okay, even though i wanted it to be so badly. but it wasn't without its ups and downs.

first off, the pitt references were... cheesy at best and downright cringeworthy at worst. the first hail to pitt got me, but these did get better as the book went on. it was hard to read as a pitt alum, so maybe that's a reason i shouldn't have read it. i almost didn't finish it because of that, but i pushed through. the authors did pull back on that, though, and i found it more tolerable then.

i did like a story set in pittsburgh as a resident and someone who's been in and out of there my whole life. i liked knowing the street names and stuff like that, but idk if i needed it, you know? it was definitely a nice homage to this city, though.

the characters were almost insufferable, and the ending isn't earned. i don't think it should've ended like this. i know it's a romcom/romance, so it will, but i think it wasn't satisfying. it wasn't even cheesy, it was just... weird. it didn't sit right with me, but maybe, again, it just isn't for me.

overall, i managed to make it through because of an audiobook, and i KNOW if i had been reading it physically, i would've had to dnf it because i wouldn't have survived. not the worst thing i've read, but that's a low bar lmao, read at your own risk

Alex is terrified of letting people get close and spends her life running. Molly is a ball of social anxiety who wants to be a brand new person in university.
Alex hopes to impress her (ex)girlfriend by helping Molly get her dream girl and proving she can be a good person.

This book was just everything. Enemies to friends to lovers. Dual perspective. Laughs and tears and me yelling at the book like the main characters could hear me.

I am obsessed.

I just couldn’t bring myself to care even a little bit.

This book reads like a cute short romcom movie. It has its high points and its low points. For me the beginning was definitely the high and I got a bit less interested as the romance portion started to really show its teeth.

I was more interested in Alex’s storyline as it felt like it was actually given its dues. Molly’s storyline felt a bit less fleshed out and also resolved extremely easily for the amount of time it was given to build up. There were also one or two scenes I personally didn’t like and annoyed me.

These types of books are not my bread and butter so I wasn’t actively invested when I read it. Often our main mcs personalities would disappear in order to fall into cliche or to reach the actual “falling in love” portion of the book. Which was a bit of a downer and threw me out very quickly. Overall, it was an okay read and I’m glad for the romance lesbian rep irregardless.
