Woah! This book totally surprised me. I listened to the audiobook and from the first chapter I had already decided it wasn’t for me, boy was I wrong. I did not predict the initial twist that comes around the middle of the book. It totally caught me off guard and holy crap this is wild. For a middle grade the content is quite dark and at no point did I feel that the author was shying away and making things go unbelievably well for the characters. My favorite part was how the characters fit into the world they lived in, and how the characters and the plot were interwoven so that you could absolutely not have one without the other.
One thing that wasn’t really for me was the “He said She said” writing style. It was very basic and simplistic and I felt that at times it got a little tedious, especially in the audiobook.
Overall I love this book and it’s one of my new favorites. I wasn’t going to continue the series but now I feel that I’m going to have to buy a physical copy then read the next one. Spectacular, 5 Stars.
