This is a perfect one sitting book. Once I started it, I had to finish it. And it's a hard one to rate because it's all about capitalism and classism and the pressure of working in a corporate office.

that ending had me !!! Okay so this is not going to be for everyone, but after a few years navigating Goodreads I’ve figured out that books this polarizing on here always end up being my favorites. Cassie works at a toxic start up in Silicon Valley and is miserable (relatable) and she’s followed around by a black hole, which is the physical manifestation of her depression (my mom said this is also very relatable). If you work in corporate America, especially for a start up this is going to be upsetting for you, but I ate it up. Please mind there are a ton of triggers - I’m tagging them on StoryGraph. I recommended it at work!

This book. I am speechless. I was so entranced by the writing and the themes being discussed throughout the book. Topics like morality, happiness, and just overall being a millennial in our current society. It was mesmerizing.

A timely book about the effects of late stage capitalism on an overworked woman who literally has a black hole following her since the day she was born. While I found her experiences about dealing with the black hole (i.e. depression) interesting and relatable, I was let down that the major conflicts of the book didn’t span out into something more intense or worthwhile. Plus the mention of the black hole on every other page got annoying after a while, and the ending felt abrupt after such a long, slow buildup to the inevitable. However I’d still recommend this book for those interested in the “Sad Girl Literature” trend that’s happening and don’t mind a book that’s more about vibes than plot.
