Y’all. I love the Twisted Sisters. If they write it, I will read it. That being said. This series is a toughy for me thus far. I have had the same experience with both Never Keep & Echo Fort. I’m hooked in and engaged for like the first 20-30%, maybe even 40%! But then I am just trudging along for the next 30% of the book. Then they pull me back in at the end, somewhat around 70% and definitely fully locked in by 85%.
I will say this! These wonderful women know how to write a true enemies to lovers story. One could say that the ending of Echo Fort might be seen as trying to stretch the series out, when it otherwise could possibly have been completed as a trilogy if different choices were made at the end of this second book. (I would not have been mad about a trilogy.)
HOWEVER, I am okay with it bc this is not a third-act breakup type sitch. These are enemies remaining enemies & tentative allies breaking trust by falling back in with what is familiar and feels safe even though they are beginning to see that the world may not be as they’ve been told it is. Bc shit is hard to unlearn when you’ve been brainwashed your whole life!
I always enjoy characters seeing the truths of their universe exposed and learning that the various forms of prejudice and hate they’ve been taught are actually just a bunch of bullshit to keep us peasants in line.
And now I am just HOPING Cinder Vale will not be the same situation. But let’s be honest, if there are any authors I will read a long-ass, at-least-somewhat-boring book for, it’s Caroline Peckham & Susanne Valenti.

What a cliffhanger to finish on - my brain is exploding a little bit 🤯
After book 1 was slow to start- book 2 was action packed start to finish.
✨ Multiple (and new) POVs
✨ Further development of our badass FMCs
✨ Slow burn romance- to the point of being painful but I’m loving it
✨ Epic battles
✨ New and interesting side characters
✨ Ongoing exploration of the waning lands
✨ Multiple story threads weaving together into one
Felt like throwing my kindle at the end of this book- I’m so invested in the characters and their stories and their frustrating decisions. As I have said the slow burn is excruciating but I am a sucker for punishment. Will be reading the next book the day it’s released. 10/10 recommend- you will hate the authors but in a good way.
🚨SPOILER 🚨
I knew something was off with Harlon he’s giving Dain Aetos in books 1-2 of the Fourth Wing series with his “I know better” and “I’m doing this for your own good” and “I’m protecting you” BS… Everest is a warrior and deserves better than you hauling her off the battlefield and telling her she doesn’t know what she’s doing. So glad she’s wised up to him- that’s my girl right there 😌
