Aro/ace poetry centred around the goddess Artemis? Sign me up! This collection is SO GOOD I just know I'll be going back to reread it countless times.

Some of my favourite lines:

I could have disappeared among the stars and you still would never think to learn how to read the constellations

nothing grows independently no one makes it through anything difficult alone and yet I try

I think whatever hurt or hollowness you feel when you see someone who is peaceful in their solitude is your own loneliness

There's so many more I could add here but I'd run the risk of reproducing pretty much the whole collection. Really recommend reading this, it's not too long and the poems all flow really well which makes a quick read.

“I bet you have never heard about my imperfect nature because you were too busy believing that nature could never be imperfect” -Eileen, Shelby. Goddess of The Hunt . Kindle Edition. This is a series of poems written from the narration of Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt, as she grows and experiences life as an aromatic and asexual goddess among the ancient Greeks. Throughout the collection there are additional narrators who help round out how others reacted and interacted with Artemis.
I loved this collection! Seriously, if you want to know whether or no you should give it a try -my recommendation is to do so! And I know that it is poetry, which can be intimidating to many, but the collection is very approachable and easy to enjoy while also offering plenty of thinking points for you to take part. And as an Aro myself -I love this celebration of a character who, like myself, doesn't understand why others are constantly seeking for me to fall in romantic love with another as though it is the only thing truly worth living for. There is so much to see and seek out in life -different experience, friendship, art, stories, etc -and all of these things are just as valid and beautiful as romantic love.
“I think whatever hurt or hollowness you feel when you see someone who is peaceful in their solitude is your own loneliness.” -Eileen, Shelby. Goddess of The Hunt . Kindle Edition.
The poetry is deep but not dense so if you aren't the biggest poetry reader, like myself, then I still believe you will be able get a lot from the story. There are some triggering elements -which the poet themselves lists at the beginning of the story -but they serve a purpose in the story being told.
We primarily follow Artemis but every once in a while we will follow other goddess from the Greek Pantheon but I won't spoil who!  “the only thing keeping them from saying I had it all is my missing love story” -Eileen, Shelby. Goddess of The Hunt . Kindle Edition.

I can't give a good explanation as to why some poetry works for me and some doesn't. I could do analyses of the poems I read, look at themes and figures of speech and so on, but that doesn't tell you anything about whether the poems make me feel something.

There are some nice lines in this and I appreciate what it's going for for sure. But I didn't connect with it as strongly as I thought I would. Might be a me-problem though. Also, I've never read a poetry collection that follows (mainly) one character. Maybe I struggled with that.

Aromantic asexual MC (Artemis)

There was so much goodness in this one, but I wish it'd been longer, and edited a bit better. But I still enjoyed it A LOT. (Also the kindle version is currently free on Amazon!!!)

fave quotes:
Artemis was a beauty, a terror, a force that nature bowed to, but only because she had bowed to nature first.

but I could have disappeared among the stars and you still would never think to learn how to read the constellations

I think whatever hurt or hollowness you feel when you see someone who is peaceful in their solitude is your own loneliness.

Rating: probably 3.5 stars

For all aces and aros, everyone who has to be, or chooses to be, their own north star. I dedicate this whole book to you, with love. I hope one day we have more books to hold like mirrors and see our own normal reflected back at us.

I think this is one of my fav poetry book of all time. I loved the way Shelby Eileen used different format (prose and verse) to tell different stories and how it focused mostly on women, their struggles and their queerness. It was lovely and as someone who loves mythology it was satisfying to read. I would recommend this to anyone
