I’m unsure how to feel, but I know it wasn’t a pleasant experience. 

-What was the point of the son’s personality traits? Nothing came of it. 
-The “friendships” between these women were surface level and them coming together in the end gave me zero comfort in their “unbreakable bond”. These women sucked just as much as the men did. 
-Why did the children randomly choose to live with the mom after hating her the entire book?

my expectations for this book were pretty low, when i first got it, i read some reviews that weren’t the best, so i put it off for a long time; i’m very glad i read it.
this book was pretty slow for the first 30%, but after it got really good! 
it was hard to put down, kept me wanting more, and was the (more lighthearted, circumstantially) that i needed before fall time!
would highly recommend reading this book - and pushing through the first 30% - but be sure to look at content warnings before!

“Think of us what you will, she thought, we made mistakes, and probably scarred our children for life, and we froze sandwiches, and forgot carpool, and got divorced. But when the time came, we went the distance.

This book took me longer to read than I thought it would. I had to take a lot of breaks between reading, but it was well worth it in the end.

The woman characters were wonderful and I loved how they were all middle aged. The men absolutely sucked, and I hated all their husbands.

Overall, it was an enjoyable read about southern woman killing a vampire!

This book is a bit bonkers but in a good way. Definitely not for the faint hearted but a really enjoyable mix of mystery, horror and dark humour.

Hendrix places the horrific so well in the everyday- reading this gave me mental whiplash a few times when the scenes’ tones shifted dramatically to become sinister or sometimes genuinely unpleasant. I meant to spread the reading over a week but devoured it in a day! Excellently set against the backdrop of 90s  South Carolina and mixes real horrors with fantastical ones.

while there are many parts of this book that i didnt like, that was kinda the point. this was gross, absurd, and just downright disturbing. i could not put this down and have not been able to stop thinking about this despite reading it like a week ago.
