Bizarre. Not a fan. It wasn’t the worst book, but it was just…not my vibe I guess.

When it comes down to it, I think I like my vamps a little more swoon-worthy.

In a terrible (review) transition.. I think though Hendrix had some great one-liners in this book, I seriously think he has daddy issues.

Another point (with no smooth transition):
In the end, Patty was the strong female lead we needed. But I’m kind of OVER reading things where the women aren’t believed. I don’t need 2020 fictional reading to make me mad. (Thank you Reality for covering that base.)

First read of 2021 ~ specifically for a book club. It was fun and dark and spooky... feeling much like a classy southern X-Files episode. Not my first read by this author, but Grady Hendrix is definitely on my radar for future work.

Wow. Jen found this book and told me it sounded like it was right up my alley. She knows me too well. I loved it. This book is perfectly weird enough for me. It combines both a lighthearted, spunky southern women’s book club and vampires, ghosts, sex, drugs, and murdered children into the same Charleston neighborhood. The absolute sense of hopelessness about halfway through hit me hard and I was deeply connected to the main character. This is quality writing, good plot, and proper character development all in one. Highly recommend to anyone who likes a little sci-fi, a little drama, and an un-put-down-able read.
