I loved this book. The writing was phenomenal. The story was thought provoking and covered very difficult topics. Christopher Meyers did an amazing job narrating, especially as Pet.

The prologue had my immediate attention, I was emotionally hooked within 10 minutes. The bond between Jam and her parents almost had me crying within the first 30 minutes of the audiobook.

The friendship between Jam and Redemption is incredibly genuine. Everyone deserves a friendship like that.

The overall concept of
angels & monsters taken from art & literature and applied to the real world was a great choice. The look of pet versus how he acts and protects Jam.

I’d recommend this book. I planning on buying a copy once I get the chance. There are many quotes worthy of highlighting.

Please read. Please take young people seriously when they come to you about sensitive topics and injustices. Keep an open mind and enjoy the writing.

That was absolutely amazing! What?! THIS should be required reading in schools. Wow I’m absolutely flabbergasted by the strength and … nope I can’t continue. I’m speechless. Incredible.

This is the first book I've read by this author and it was an amazing start. It is such a wonderful piece on restorative justice that should absolutely replace books like To Kill a Mockingbird in school curriculums. It is so well suited for its target audience without any condescension.

It's also so beautifully written and you have so much deep empathy for the main cast. I love how it handles the aftermath of revolution and what is involved in building a new society.

I honestly can't say much other than this is a must read.

are monsters under your bed, or just hiding in plain sight?

such an impactful and important read about seeing past the mundane illusions that in-denial societies have set and addressing abuse in all its horrifying, oftentimes deceitful visages. i am astounded by how thought-provoking, profound, and heartbreaking this novella was, how excellent and diverse the representation of identity was written, and how for a limited number of pages, it was able to effectively unpack and discuss heavy topics without being too explicit. i absolutely loved the whimsical language and prose; i grew attached to the main characters—jam, pet, and redemption—and it's silly but i want to protect them; and i appreciated the metaphors of good/angels and bad/monsters, knowing that this could be easily read and interpeted by younger readers. i just know that i will still spend time thinking about this on the days to come—in fact, this story and its messages will certainly stay with me forever.

I'm not ashamed to say it: Hot monster.

Pet, I mean, is hot, not the actual monster of the book.

But then we find out Pet is an angel, so double hot. And an angel that kills? Triple hot!!! A righteous angel that can eventually be reasoned with and see the good in letting humans learn to be better and do better without having to exact justice on behalf of victims without due process?! This is just gonna keep going, I have to stop myself now.

Amazing story and novel concept execution. Loved the characters and world. Felt that more could've been explored. Narrator was stellar!
