I have seen so many reviews with comments like “proof that podcasters shouldn’t write books,” and I just want you to know if you’re like me and you skimmed the reviews before reading, those comments are WRONG. My girlfriend gifted me this book after I became obsessed with the Morbid podcast and I absolutely loved this book. You can crap on Alaina all you want, I can’t think of someone better qualified to have written this exact book than her. I am literally going online to buy the next book right now because I cannot wait to start it. This book had me sat in bed while my girlfriend was asleep, whisper screaming to myself “WHAT?” The twists and turns will keep you hooked. I opened my book to read this tonight on chapter 15 and finished it, on chapter 36 two hours later. 10/10, 5 starts, I don’t care how you rate it, this book was incredible.

Entertaining. Writing got better as the book went on. Not a lot of character development or connection with the characters but maybe the second book will dive deeper.

If you are a fan of the show Bones, you will love this book. I enjoyed the scientific approach to this book when it comes to medical examination. It was done really well.
Going into this book, you know who the killer is. He is clearly a horrible person. Wren is a medical psychologist and has found herself wrapped up in the investigation to try to stop the killer. The twist of this book was a little predictable, but it was pretty good!

I think this book is best read/listened to as an audiobook, especially after reading others reviews. The narrators were great!
I really enjoyed this book - despite the times I zoned out (what can I say, audiobooks do that sometimes), it was great listening and the thorough details painted a picture that made me feel like I was watching a movie or an episode of Criminal Minds.
As a fan of the podcast, I enjoyed the subtle ways Alaina incorporated herself into the book. She also spoke to her fans and her style of storytelling transferred to the book. I felt very seen as a weirdo and can’t wait for book 2!

I’m not well established on this app by any means, but I just wanted to throw my two cents into the ring.
I throughly enjoyed this book, and I can still respectfully say I noticed some issues with the writing and the plot. I think, as we are all adults here, you should be able to recognize that this is the first novel released by Alaina. It’s not going to be 100% perfect or living up to the standards of the thousands of people who follow her podcast. It’s still very enjoyable and clearly she loved the process and the characters.
There are way too many rude reviews. Just be a bit more considerate.
