A bit boring. The sloe burn was neither slow nor burning. The plot was messy. The romance came out of nowhere it wasn't really flashed out well, one day Ferren hates him for no reason the next they fuck. Mid

an interesting premise but kinda sloppily executed. the ending left a lot of questions unanswered (like why was the protagonist such a disappointing priestess?) and the prose was unbelievably stilted to the point where I sometimes questioned whether english was the author’s first language. would’ve really benefited from some editing ― see the quotes below for some evidence:
“the least invasive as possible”
“a little too pompous than i have patience for”
“hard to muck into” (the MMC’s head)
“to that I have no doubt”
“darkened pupils channel into me”

Full disclosure, I saw one TikTok about this book and immediately downloaded it and started reading it. Literally went directly from the TikTok app to the Kindle app and ended up reading until 2am. There is nothing about this book that I didn’t absolutely love.
Ferren’s journey and growth from the beginning of the book to the end really had me rooting for her. Some female MCs end up feeling so feel one-dimensional, but Ferren’s character development was a treat to read and experience alongside her.
Also, 99 is the loml. I love him and I love him & Ferren together. All of the mask-related scenes really did it for me. Like 10/10 execution without feeling cringe or cheesy. Mask k*nk girlies, this one is FOR YOU.
On top of loving these characters, the story is so engaging, I literally could not stop reading it. Each new twist and turn had me on the edge of my seat. Beautiful and vivid descriptions throughout. Endearing supporting characters (August is so cute I love him) with a found family element that I adore.
Also, as a religious trauma girlie, so much of this spoke to my soul. I understood Ferren’s internal struggles and just wanted to support her with all my heart.
& the sloowwwww burn and spicy scenes were HOT.
