I love sci-fi romance and so was really excited to find this series. I liked that the FMC was a priestess and how that fit into the story arc. The interplanetary travel was also fun. I appreciated that there was a found family trope. The magic was minimal, almost would have preferred there was no magic component. The romance between Ferren and 99 started off great, but then felt a bit disjointed. The plot and pacing felt a bit inconsistent, some twists and reveals felt out of place or half baked. Overall still enjoyed it. The narrator did a great job with the different character voices and tones, they were a bit soft spoken and tough to hear at times but the audiobook was still good.

I enjoyed it in a day, but I cannot get past the damn 99 Commander name. I cannot pretend I have a freaking clue about their weirdo First Son/Mother religion and world because honestly, I don’t have a clue what’s going on.

I know that she’s a priestess but everyone that’s supposed to be holy, albeit her friend Thea, treats Ferrin like garbage.

August is awesome and I wanted him to be the MMC. For the MMC, I found him lacking and don’t really care for a masked man trope after the Spring Court and Tam Tam’s association. Can we please give this man [99] a god damn name in book two? Because I have to be honest, it’s going to be a weird deal breaker for me. Do I go directly into book two or into another series? Help!
