It’s a fun collection of short stories. They were confusing at times, and made me laugh at others. If you don’t know what the book is, make sure to research that a bit first. I’ve never read anything by Terry Pratchett aside from “Good Omens” which he wrote with Neil Gaiman. But this book came up as a recommended read for me and I’m really glad it did. It was funny and an easy read that I really enjoyed.

It is a delight to discover new stories by Terry Pratchett so long after he passed. Some of the stories are limited by the space he was given to write them, but they are still inventive and fun. My favourites are The Oilgarlic Tower, The Haunted Steamroller, Arnold the Bominable Snowman, and Dragon Quest.

What in the britishy British Britland am I reading. There were some cute stories. But I get the same feeling from this book as I do from Elmore Leonard’s Fire In The Hole. It’s technically short stories. But it’s a lot more like rough drafts repeated over and over again until the author finds something they like and writes art with it. Knowing that sir Pratchett had all his unfinished work destroyed at time of death, I don’t know how he would feel about this book being published. Again there’s a lot of repetition and forgettable moments. And most are set in a world I just know nothing about (the United Kingdom) and context feels important (so many references to ministries and councels). But also, best line in the book: what do you call a dog that does magic? A Labra-cadabra-dor
