So the final book in the republic commando series(yes I know there is also imperial commando)and wow what an ending to this series. And it all comes together to what I say is a sad ending, I find it a sad ending and sets the scene for the imperial commando post order 66. I think this is the best book yet out of all of them next to true colours. And I loved the exploration about clone commandoes in the war and what are they the theme threw out of this beautiful series. I fully recommend this to anyone that wants to read star wars books.

This is not a book for the faint of heart - if you're looking for something light, or if you just want to dabble in Star wars novels, do not read this.
It is long, it is dense, and it definitely requires that you've read the previous Republic Commando books. There is a massive cast of characters, and ongoing plots from previous books.
That being said, it was very good and I enjoyed it. Just don't go into it with the wrong expectations.

I am absolutely astounded by how interesting Karen Traviss makes these books. I like the occasional military book, but these I relish. As there are still many things to resolve, I hope that another one is in the works.

OH NO!!!!! Order 66??!!! That's the order given from the emperor to all clones to kill all jedi and that includes Etain, the jedi general that Darman fell in love with . But he still doesn't know that he has a kid because his squad leader kept it a secret and forced Etain to keep it a secret Ahhh! This plot is SO complex and seductive and incredible--especially when Etain dies and Darman can't believe it because he's so grieved by the incident AND messed up by the fatal injury of his squad leader that he doesn't want to go back for her because he can't believe it!!! OH...! You'll just have to read it and the first three books to find out. It's just too sad .
Awesome, just awesome. Leaves lots of room for a sequel and has some surprises. Just great writing, great battles and good characters.

I haven't read the other books in this series, but once you get into it then it works as a novel on its own.
Kal Skirata has been training clone troops, and comes to see them as his boys. They've started to have lives of their own, rather than just being mass produced copies of Jango Fett.
Kal wants to get them out of the army, and find a way to increase their built in limited life span. To this end, his troops have been hacking data from the Republic, building up a close unit of allies and siphoning money.
Palpatine has been building his own fleet of ships and getting his own clone army put into the action. When he sends out Order 66, telling them to kill all Jedi, its time for Skirata to try and get his troops somewhere safe.
Lots going on, sacrifices and bending the rules. Traviss writes good characters, making them more than a faceless representation of the Republic. An interesting read from the other sides point of view.
