"Hyonsu would play the catcher one last time"
The description of this book alone caught my fancy. I started this book with so much excitement but it kind of dwindled down a little ways through. This was because of the writing. In general I feel that translated works are often written very stiffly and don't really portray the story in the way that was intended. Obviously I know that it's hard to translate and keep the same feeling but I felt like this could've been done better. Nonetheless I trudged on.
I really liked the characters in this book. I thought that they were all very complex in their own ways. Though Sunghwan was my favorite. While you learned the backgrounds of almost all of the characters you still never learned that much about him. The author made it seem like you did but when you think back on it you really didn't. Yongje was another character that I felt was very interesting. He was so evil even in his introduction setting him up as the villain from the beginning. However, you didn't learn much about his background before his marriage to his wife. I wanted to know why he was the way he was but you never find out.
The book kind of dragged in the middle with mundane things just going on but it picked up closer to the end. The big confrontations felt kind of rushed, especially with all of the build up before them but it was kind of nice that it wasn't dragged out. Overall I loved this book and I look forward to reading more books by this author.
