I wanted to like this book more than I did.  The dual timelines broke up the story too much for me.  I preferred the story set in 1980s Chicago to the one in the present day.

I can already tell this will be one of my favorite reads of the year. I don’t know if I’ve ever fell in love with book characters as much as I love Yale and Fiona (beside maybe when I read A Little Life).
The pacing, plot, cliffhangers, beautiful descriptions, honest renditions of humanity and relationships, devastating losses… this book absolutely wrecked me. And not only that but I also learned so much about AIDS, the LGBT scene in Chicago, activism in the 80s and art in 1920s Paris. Cannot express how much you need to drop everything you’re doing and read this.

i thought this was just phenomenal. both storylines interested me and i felt so so much for the characters. this broke my heart but also put it together. this was devastating but beautiful.

it took me a minute to become ensconced in the story and then I couldn't put it down.  I stayed up until 2 AM crocheting and listening to this audiobook get sadder and sadder and before I knew it, the book was over.  this is one I need to sit with for a bit, but color me impressed.

if you liked Still Life by Sarah Winman, you'll love this.  very similar books in many ways (with different settings and plots, obviously).
