Loved the book! But the slow pacing made me put it down for some time. However, when stuff starts hitting the fan, the book becomes much more fast-paced.

Just as Jane Austen intended, I didn't like Emma for most of the book. However, I felt her character growing on me. By the end of the novel, I was wishing her well. Charming story, though not much happens. It's very much about characters and the plot is almost non-existent. Now to watch a couple versions of the movie!

I’ve seen a few film adaptations of this but never actually read it until now. I really enjoy how similar this is to a Shakespearean Comedy. The constant miscommunications and people being in love with the wrong people really was so reminiscent of A Mid Summer’s Night Dream. I also appreciate how Emma is such an imperfect character. Her constant failure to see things clearly and her aggressive confidence is honestly so relatable. When she crashes and has her moment of clarity about just how cruel she’s behaved, it sort of pierced my own conscience.
There’s so much to this novel. I think it’s worth a read. Truly, not much has changed about the complexities of family and social dynamics in the last couple hundred years
