LOVED this book’s formatting and how it was divided- a quick and easy read with short “chapters.” the pop culture references (if they can be called that) were tasteful, and didn’t take away from the worldbuilding! romy was definitely lovable and realistic; i didnt cringe at her reactions to her situation at all. the plot twist/mysterious backstory was easy enough to guess at, and was not far fetched. a quick warning to check TWs, and to not expect romance! without spoilers, this is a read that should be considered carefully, or at least viewed with the perspective of seeing “the bigger picture.” i read this after the darkness outside us, and can say that they are similar enough to enjoy after finishing one or the other and rid yourself of the scifi mystery book high. would recommend to anyone trying to hit last minute book goals!

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. I definitely liked/hated the fact that you could feel all the emotions that Romy was feeling. I did get a bit confused with the concept of how the communication worked in the book but it did not distract from the plot. The MC gives me anxious girl vibes that is extremely lonely that at points you want to shake her and say think straight. However, the foreshadowing is subtle that when the twist happens it all clicks.
