It took me a little while to get into this one, but once things started happening and the pace picked up a bit, I was absolutely riveted. Couldn't stop reading. I'm so glad there's going to be a second one. I need to know how it all ends!

The Passage was a challenge, yet a pleasure to read. It took a good hundred pages or so for me to feel completely hooked into the storyline and the characters. However, once this happened I couldn't put it down. The characters are mostly well developed, and the story crashes through crescendos of human highs and ultimate lows, all the while dragging you into reading more to understand what is an alien version of the world as we know it.

Listened to this as an audiobook--totally engrossing.

4-4.5: wow. impressive storytelling, and such an in-depth world created. an engrossing read. i might need a breather before the next book, and part of me doesn't want to read it, but i'm pretty curious how this all plays out. definitely recommend.

This book could have easily been three hundred pages shorter - the middle section dragged its feet in a way that felt really unnecessary and it’s why it took me a while to get through. That being said, the beginning and end make up for it. The story is compelling and unique, and the characters and relationships were enjoyable. I’m very interested to see what direction the sequels go in…

very engaging read. for me, the book was a mix between the terminator and the road: there were elements of totally fantastic combined with moments of pure beautiful in there. i did feel that there were far too many underdeveloped plot lines, however. and despite it being some 800 pages long, at the end i was wishing the author had revisited some characters he introduced early in the novel. i suppose that is how you set the stage for a sequel though, huh?

3.75 rounding up - I couldn’t put it down. And believe me, that’s a burden when reading the paperback 750+ pages. But the story is captivating and the writing is strong. Yes there is much that is formulaic, but he creates good characters and world building and — dystopian future with vampires…!!!!
