Hyped as a great new post-apoc novel...we'll see.
UPDATE: Enjoyed it a lot! But oh no - cliffhanger ending.

Reading this book was like watching a movie! When I had to "pause", it was easy to jump right back in to the world that Cronin created. I feel this book jumped across genres: part literary fiction, part thriller, part horror, part dystopian. I am reading the next one right away!

Wow, I really enjoyed this book way more than I expected. The storytelling style is so different than anything I've encountered or expected when I first picked this up. If you've only watched the show or heard of the show, it's almost like it's an entirely separate idea from the book. I haven't watched the show, but just based on the episode synopses, I already know they did not do this story justice, and I wish someone else would give it another try and include the WHOLE story, or at least, the latter part of the book.
Anyway, I am hooked and cannot wait to read the next one in the series.

The "HEY I'M GOING TO MAKE YOU THINK THIS PERSON'S DEAD OOPS HA HA HA THEY'RE NOT REALLY DEAD" thing got tired real quick. Other than that it was really good.
Excellent book, but oh so long! Happy to be moving onto book 2, The Twelve!
It took a while for me to get into this book. Somewhat daunting at around 800 pages, and with unfortunate comparisons to Stephen King's "The Stand," I spent the first 1/2 of the book with the thought that I didn't really like it, but determined to get through it with an English-major-assigned-book resolve.
I'm still not terribly fond of the characters, but did find myself devouring (pardon the pun) chapters more quickly and with less consternation as I continued. I am left with some small eagerness for the next, but essentially closed the book for the last time with an appreciation for what it delivered: a fun read.
One for the vacation pile, I think!

I found the book entertaining, but I'm hoping he has the entire story outlined with the finish and isn't going to make it up as he goes along (a la 'Lost').
