The Passage

This one was great at the beginning, kind of slow in the middle and GREAT at the end. Loved it. We didn't get full closure, but it wasn't the kind of cliffhanger that leaves you angry and totally lost. I think there's a sequel coming out in 2012 and I can't wait.

This book will make you think about your own strength, and paints an all-too-realistic picture of the world as we know it coming to an end.

I have devoured this book, the most satisfying read for a while! The US army is looking for the ulitmate weapon, well, that is, the ultimate soldier. However, their attempts go wrong in a spectacular way: they have created vampires. This is not the twilight variety of misunderstood "vegetarians", but a ruthless, bloodthirsty lot. As the terror is unleashed, FBI agent Wolgast flees to the mountains with the 13th test subject, a six-year-old gilr called Amy. This is no ordinary horror, you get feel and detail of nearly every important character in this book. It is consuming and satisfying...to a point. At around page 300, the world as we know it is all gone and about 100 years have passed. There are only a few scattered remains of humanity left and so the story continues to somehow to defeat "the virals". Well worth trouble reading, albeit the somewhat inconclusive finsih.

Really liked this. The beginning reminded me a lot of old Stephen King - Firestarter era.

Little slow in the beginning and was kind of confused during the turning point of the story about 200-300 pg in but was amazed at the entire story after I finished. Everything wrapped up together nicely and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Loved this book. It's something I never would have picked up, but heard its premise on a radio show. It was a wonderful break from typical vampire stories. I've already read #2 and anxiously awaiting 3

Second time through is just as good

Really enjoyed this, although you have to fight through a 100 year jump in the book, which most reviewers don't like. It is basically The Stand with zombie/vampires, but Cronin does a great job in describing the apocalypse and the struggle to rebuild society. This is the first book in a trilogy, so I am looking forward to books 2 ("The Twelve") and 3. Definitely the best book I read in 2010.

My GOD this book is keeping me up late. So good!
