“Sometimes I want to quit being a woman all together I want to throw my hands in the air and say alright you got me you figured me out. I'm not pretty. I'm not thin. I don't deserve love. I have no right to use my voice.”

Amy is Frank. A fun book to read. Kept my interest.

This book has had me in tears, laughing out loud and silently cussing.

Amy has done a lot and been though a lot.

The combination of self-deprecation and confidence, of funny and tragic, of wry and sincere was an irresistible combo for me. Really liked this--3.5 stars.

Love her so I loved the book. She drags on at times at the end of chapters but who cares. She is funny and honest and awesome.

I kept changing my mind about this (audio)book the further I got into it. At first it was crude and very funny, then almost too honest and smug about it (shoplifting is great!), then heartfelt, then serious, lecturing, then revealing.

Amy Schumer says at the beginning that it's NOT a biography and indeed it is more a series of essays on particular moments or areas in her life. However if she ever did have a biog in the future, you imagine that she'd have to include most of the book but in a slightly different order. That's what puts me off these comedian autobiogs (I'm sure it is the same for other sorts of celebs, but I don't read their books as often!). It can feel like they don't want to do a book that would feel too revealing (for whatever reason), so by hopping around the topics, they can avoid anything that would be particularly sensitive to them.

Nevertheless it's an enjoyable read/listen. Amy is warm and authentic, unabashed and probably true to herself. I remain to be convinced she's an introvert, however.

This one just wasn't for me.

I was lucky enough to get an autographed copy of this book from Amy Schumer herself! I absolutely love everything she does (and told her as much when I saw her). She is a flawed human with a flawless self-awareness. She's an unapologetic truth-teller, moving seamlessly between very sad and very funny stories from her life and career. Amy has not had it easy. She has survived and continues to survive a lot. She stares her truth in the face... and then shares it with the entire world. Unlike most celebrity memoirs, I truly felt like I was reading her authentic voice. This was not a rose-colored-glasses look at her own past. She looks at the whole of it-- poorly-conceived lower back tattoos and MSG headline performances-- with a bold honesty. She is not too self-deprecating, either; she knows and acknowledges her many strengths, while roasting her own weaknesses. I laughed out loud several times, and was nearly in tears at others. I think a lot of people would object to calling Amy a "role model"-- Amy chief among them, most likely-- but I think that she fully lives her happy-in-my-own-skin ethos, and that is worth emulating.

I listened to her reading her own audiobook and could not recommend that highly enough.

A collection of essays...sort of. Schumer jumps around her life, both per chapter and within each chapter. At times funny, other times serious, this book reads a lot like I imagine Schumer thinks or talks. Entertaining!

I enjoy books written by female comedians. I like Amy Schumer's honest look at her life and her no bullshit approach to everything. It was fun to read her crazy stories and learn a bit more about her.
