A funny and deeply personal book. She does not gloss over her childhood incidents and her unorthodox upbringing. Amy Schumer hits another homerun. She really nails some important issues such as violence and assault against women and what it's like trying to assert yourself as a woman in this world. It feels like she was writing about me as an introvert. We like being alone: we need it and there is nothing wrong with it. This book is as surprisingly deep and meaningful as her Trainwreck movie is. Read it. Now.

This provided me with a well-rounded and much-needed mix of loud, uncontrollable laughter and sniffling, self-conscious tears. If I ever have the privilege of meeting Amy Schumer, I'm buying her a Moscow Mule and offering her a huge hug. And a high-five. Great, heartfelt memoir from an intelligent, wickedly funny woman. Five stars.

If you enjoy Amy Schumer and her brand of comedy, you'll like this book. If you don't enjoy Amy Schumer and her brand of comedy, you won't like this book.
Amy's sense of humor is all over this book of essays and there were many laugh out loud moments. This is not a profound book, by any means, and sometimes it gets a little too preachy, but I still got a kick out of some of her stories. I think Amy would, at least, be happy I made it all the way through and didn't throw it in a dumpster.
THE GIRL WITH THE LOWER BACK TATTOO, in the lineup of recent memoirs by female comediennes, comes under Tina Fey (obviously), above Lena Dunham...maybe next to Amy Poehler. But probably just a little bit below her.

I don't always like books like this and Amy isn't my favorite comedian usually: not for her inappropriateness, necessarily but because her humor makes me uncomfortable sometimes. She's growing on me.

I really enjoyed this one. Woman empowerment ftw! I love love love her confidence despite her flaws. Imo, she is living as we all should. Not going to take anyone else's crap and standing up for what she believes. Bravo. Several times throughout, I thought "good for her!" May we all love ourselves a little more after reading this.

I enjoyed it, but definitely not as funny as her standup.

As a curvy, sometimes crass woman in the entertainment industry, I really identified with Amy and was so glad I listened to her audio book. From the outside, she seems like it's all sex and jokes, but Amy is so smart, thoughtful and compassionate, which comes through in every chapter. If you like witty memoirs from smart women, take a read!

I'm a rare fan of Amy Schumer. I like that she isn't a conventional comedian and she touches a lot on the issues of toxic masculinity and the patriarchy in society. Reading her book was insightful to her background, where her humor comes from while reminding you she IS a person who has had odd and traumatic situations in her life and how her family and their humor taught her to deal with it.

I like a lot of women comic biographies: Ellen, Tina, Amy and Mindy are just a few. I wasn't even that big of a fan of Amy Schumer's. This book made her human to me. I loved hearing her witty banter on her past and learning more about her history. I always enjoy hearing about humble roots. I also just find Amy to be an inspiring strong woman who can be proud of her sexuality even though people continuously call her a slut. She has definitely won me over and I'll read her second book whenever it decides to be published.
I also listened to it as an audiobook. And Amy read it so it was even better. Everyone should read their own biography if they can.

I loved every minute of this. So glad that I got the audio because I think the experience of reading a celeb memoir / essay collection is enhanced 10000x when you get to listen to them perform it.
Amy is hilarious and lovely and honest and everything you want in a pretend-best-friend celebrity.

Known for being loud, vulgar and outspoken, comedian Amy Schumer's book contains more heart than might be expected, much like her movie, Trainwreck. The thing I liked most was that as well as being funny, Amy really had something to say. She had stories about domestic abuse, sexual harrassment/assault, gun violence, living with a parent with a serious illness and more.

This wasn't your run of the mill celebrity book, focusing on how they were just an average girl with a lot of luck (making an extremely boring book) - Amy had real experiences and a real message behind what she was saying. When Amy talks about self worth and loving yourself for who you are I believe it, because you know she's lived it.

There are definitely crass jokes aplenty but the type that make you laugh out loud. Amy's brand of self love and self confidence was really believable, really refreshing and made for a good read.
