Laugh out loud book, great to listen to while working out!
Well, I wanted to read this book because I think Amy Schumer is funny. I also recently watched her comedy special on Netflix and I did laugh, a lot, but I also was more uncomfortable with her jokes than I expected to be. So, an interesting side effect from reading this book was that I felt pity for Amy and ended up just wanting to pray for her? I 100% did not expect to feel that way after reading her book. I like that she was transparent in it, very much in fact, but I also felt like she is lost in a profound way despite being so clear-headed about her flaws. That sounds so judgmental. I really don't mean it that way. I felt as I was reading, that if I were friends with Amy in real life (and I feel like I genuinely would love to be her friend though we SUPER don't run in the same circles or are into the same pastimes), that I would want to hug her and comfort her all the time. I'm weird.
To be fair, reading a book about the person who authored said book is kind of weird already.
Anyway, the book was really well written, easy to read, funny and lots of great antidotes. I'd recommend it, if you're interested in Amy Schumer or think she is funny. Then you can tell me if I'm just the only psycho who's main reaction to her book was sympathy. ;)

This book is funny and entertaining, as you would expect, but also an honest account of one woman's life. Schumer doesn't sugar-coat her experiences or portray herself in a flattering light. She does manage to find the humor in even the craziest situations.
What I admire about this book and about Schumer?
--She knows she is an introvert and can honor that and still do a job that puts her work and herself out there constantly.
--She is a great role model in that she got where she is today by working her ass off. Her dedication to her path and unwavering work ethic are amazing.
--She has some challenging family relationships that she is able to maintain and discuss in a thoughtful, work-in-progress kind of way.
--She puts the particulars of some of her relationships with men right out there, sharing the good, the bad, the ugly. It's part education, part commiseration, part why-the-hell-do-I-do-this. It's empowering to share this with others.
--She is confident in who she is - particularly when it comes to her work. It's great to hear from someone who doesn't apologize for who they are.

Reading this book rather than watching her shows made sense to me, because I don't like watching videos. It was okay to hear her life story, but I guess I'm more of an Amy Poehler gal. And I didn't get much a sense for her comedy. (Or maybe I did and just didn't get it..?)
It was okay. I was expecting it to be more humorous...but it just wasn't.
A wonderfully funny, touching, & poignant book about a very comedian who has made me laugh, & feel better about myself. Her stories about her dad, mom, & the aftermath about the shooting at her movie Trainwreck were touching & meaningful.
Amy Schumer, or at least her first book, is a huge pile of contradictions. I could go into them, but they've already been covered extensively in the popular media. However, she does have some useful insights about how to perform as a female comedian. Other than that, it was a rehash of [b:Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?|10335308|Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? She told the truth about her life. I see and appreciate that.
Parts were crude but you can't help liking Amy for being her authentic self. And the audio was enjoyable read by the author.
Summary: Schumer mines her past for stories about her teenage years, her family, relationships, and sex and shares the experiences that have shaped who she is--a woman with the courage to bare her soul to stand up for what she believes in, all while making us laugh.

Seriously not funny...
We each have a life story, how we tell it or how much we tell is up to us. Amy Schumer reveals a great deal about her life, her mistakes, her flaws, and her struggles in this compelling autobiography.
This book will make you cry, maybe even shock some, and maybe make you smile. Smile, maybe, laugh, no. Knowing Schumer is a standup comic, I was expecting, and had heard in other reviews, that parts of this book would be funny. Not really.
Her exploits with men are more sad than funny, and her admitting to being in an abusive relationship is a wake-up call for women, not a laughing matter. She is very candid about her childhood and the choices she has made in her life. Her honesty is refreshing and makes this a story worth reading.
Her insights are interesting to read, and she does not hold back on what and why she believes in the things she does. It is sad that she has been maligned for some of her statements, and especially for her body type. She has a personal stake in gun control and when you read why, you can’t help but agree with her.
I am giving this one three stars. It is a good read, worth one’s time, just don’t expect to laugh a lot.
