Thank you, Amy! Great book. Love hearing about how you are uniquely you, but also a regular woman.

There are few books that are so raw and honest and Amy Schumer is one that does not hold back. She touches on topics we can all relate to such as body image, having to speak for certain groups even when you don't want to, falling into bad relationships and often dangerous ones and dealing with family issues. If you are looking for a self help/ motivational book... this isn't one. The purpose of this book is not to make you feel better about yourself, it's a realization that even women who are successful and beautiful are often called worthless and judged mostly on appearance. When reading this book you feel like you are having a conversation with a friend. Oh, and if you are sensitive to explicit language then don't even bother because Amy does not hold back.

Really enjoyed this - read it as an Audiobook read by the author so that was a definite bonus.
There were some laugh out loud moments, some sections that made me think and a couple that made me cry in the car. If you have any interest in Amy Schumer, I would strongly recommend this book - it paints a broad picture of a smart, strong, funny woman that is a great read.

I really enjoyed reading about Amy's childhood as well as seeing behind the sassy comedian who seems to have it all together.
It was raw, straightforward, and touching. I loved it.

I picked this book up at a little free library. I don’t know much about Amy Schumer and I’ve never seen her movie Trainwreck. But it was interesting to read this book at the same time that I was finishing The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel which of course centers around the challenges of being a female comedian.

To be honest, I didn't finish this book. I have a feeling Amy Schumer could relate to both my attempt and my self-acceptance in confessing this to the world.

The best part of the parts I read (I was skipping all over) was when she describes a summer job she had at a camp for people with special needs. She was quite obviously entirely honest - nobody would admit to some of the things she thought, said, and did unless they were true! - and portrayed herself in a way that seemed to my memory and observation to be very likely accurate for a teenager in her general social scene. And yet, by the end of the summer job, and the end of the short story about it, she managed to gather and absorb a transforming truth about herself that I could relate to and benefit from.

Even if she is sometimes offensive or disgusting or off-putting, I find it wonderfully empowering for a person to own her faults and love herself even more knowing there is nothing to be proud of in them. It is not like a resume or a job interview where she encourages you to only say those things that reflect well on you even though they may be described as faults in some other context - they are full-on negative character traits!

If Amy Schumer can love herself - not just her body, which I and many others really do believe is beautiful, but also her mistakes and her incapacities - just the way she is, then SO CAN I.

I may not have read every page - I read only so long as I was still laughing, and some things I didn't find funny - but I feel like I got the overall message. So I'm returning it to the library so another person can have the same fun I did.

To be honest, it was a 4.5. I usually round down, but I changed my mind to offset the number of 1 star reviews from misogynists.

If an audiobook version is available read by the author, by all means listen to it! And as Amy Schumer is a professional in spoken word comedy (i.e. ACTING), I am glad I got hold of the audio version instead of printed. A great experience. But only for people who like Amy or are open to her brand of humor. This book is a total immersion experience inside her mind. She wrote everything, from hilarious to tragic, embarrassing to disgusting. But it all receives the pleasant patina of Amy's voice through the audio version.
adventurous emotional funny hopeful inspiring lighthearted fast-paced

Some of her jokes fall flat, but it does get better towards the end of the book.
