Just absolutely scrumpy sci-fi. Just engrossed so quickly. The only downside was I like the characters a lot at the beginning and although I though the later ones were similarly good I cba to learn their names. also just give me like one woman please.

I have no clue what to make of this book, but it was overall interesting at least. I found the way it was written, particularly the often unacknowledged major time jumps, to be infuriating, but when Things Were Happening it was very fun.

The plot of this book often felt like “this happened and then this happened” and on and on instead of painting clearer cause-and-effects, but that could easily be on me. Asimov just seemed so intent on racing through history that he didn’t craft a super coherent arc nor did he spend an ounce of time on character development.

The lack character development in particular was a bummer, because in particular the three main leaders had a lot to offer but then Asimov just… moves along. That’s part of the point of the unending enormity of time and the diminishing returns of Great Men, but it doesn’t always make for a particularly great story.

Will I read more of these? Maybe! But I’m in no rush to do so.

The complexity of the plot is incredible... I couldn't put down the book because I needed to know how all the apparently random events would add up, and despite my amazing plot recognizing skills, I was pleasantly surprised. You know all the crises will be solved, but until it happens, you have no idea how! A great read!
