Such a disappointing book. I didn't have high hopes, I only picked the series up cause it seemed like a fast and lighthearted read, and it was, but the cringiness was off the charts. I wish the present day plotline was scrapped completely, and that we watched this character live her life in ancient societies instead. I wish she wasn't a white person located in India, why couldn't she be Indian? The explanation just felt like a really stupid and poorly thought out reason to whitewash everyone. I wish there wasn't such a "I'm not like other girls" with vampire flavour element. I wish this shitty main character didn't claim she loved someone she just met that day, without any reasoning or proof, that Ray didn't tearfully claim he loved her back, that he didn't cheat on his girlfriend but still act like he was being a good partner, that she didn't literally say she saw him as her CHILD multiple times after saying she loves him romantically- like- I'm so done. This must be intentional. There is no way in hell someone is just that oblivious. Especially because the beginning of vampires plotline was pretty interesting and the book would have massively benefitted from it being the only plotline. It would have genuinely been a 4 star or more review. Even with the racism. I will be reading the next two books because they're also tiny and I already own them, and also cause I'm hoping it will get better, or that if it doesn't, I'll at least know what not to do when I write my own books in the future.
