I only read this because Meenakshi told me the whole plot of the show. I have no idea how I would have felt if I didn't know what was coming. Instead I spent the whole novel looking for signs of the ending. I'm not a fan of the juvenile protagonist. How she speaks and acts (both before and after the accident) just puts me off. All of the characters come off as caricatures (except maybe the littles). I should have felt something (especially when it came to the dogs) but I just felt nothing. I think this is interesting as a show because the visual medium makes having an unreliable narrator all the more unreliable. As a novel I honestly just couldn't be bothered hearing about the self inflicted misery of some make believe rich white girl. Also I HATE how the love interest is described. You're talking about a 15 year old boy....

I might be in the minority here but I must say... I did like the twist. It's not like a "this is the craziest twist ever", but it did make sense for me, and the rest of the book did make more sense.

However, I did not like a lot of the rest of it. What I disliked most was the extremely shallow drama that surrounded the family, I don't think I could care less for it. I was way more focused on Cadence and her weird situation (including her disability and her addiction), as well as on Gat, who was the most reasonable character here by far (and I do agree with basically everything he did and said).

We were liars became a overnight sensation in the YA community, so I was interested to read it but still weary. It looked like another overused romance novel that would be uninteresting. Though it is slightly romance-ish, it is definitely not the main point of the story. The story makes you think you what is happening but guess what? NOPE! I won't ruin it obviously, but it is worth a read. Enjoy!

Hope the movie is better, the book was slow and hard to follow. Not particularly good, or  interesting
