I think I am done with my peruse back into Stephen King. I remember really enjoying this book as a teenager more than this reread. It is a classic story, a haunted hotel, ghosts, spirits, and a little side of racism that really dates this book. I appreciated the delve into multiple character's thoughts and motives and how they were shaped by the hotel. I preferred the portrayal of the wife, Wendy, in this story over the many other portrayals King has done in other stories. He has a way of making himself so unlikable just off how he writes about women in his stories. Danny is the best part of this book and his relationship to other's with the shine and his relationship to the hotel was very compelling. Good starter read for a horror enthusiast, but skip if you don't like King's other writing as it is a long one.

This is one of the scariest books I have ever read. The child is so young to have to deal with the horrors that await him. The idea of 'shining' so appeals to me, imagine having that knack. On the downside, imagine having to deal with the dark, evil side of it. Fast-paced, well-written, kept me looking over my shoulder! Definitely not a bedtime read!
