4.5 stars. Really compelling. Hated the guy throughout the book, but that was clearly the point. Was his redemption enough? No, I don't think so, but the whole book had me guessing what would happen next and when Jack would put it all together. Some parts were obvious, others had me reeling. Good read, wish I had more info at the end. Checked out the website, but it didn't have a lot of extras for the last 1/4 of the book.
I like unlikable protagonists. this guy might be the king of unlikable protagonists. not that he's particularly well-written or developed or anything, he just sucks, he's grating, and he somehow keeps getting worse. so this whole book for me was essentially watching a dude I hate get supernaturally mind-fucked beyond belief, and I really needed that right now. it gets a 5, it's not a 5 star novel according to my standards, but I found it at the right time and it hit the right way.
bro was somehow more likeable after getting possessed, cause at least then he was honest.

Another spooky read for spooky month. Where the previous book I read dealt with metaphysical horror, this one dealt with your typical exorcisms, wandering ghosts, and demons. That being said, while the book definitely had its scary moments spread here and there, I found that what really kept me engaged was Jack himself. Not necessarily the way that he conducted himself, but the fact that I knew he would get what was coming to him by the end of the book. Jack was a dick, to put it bluntly, an egotistical dick that deserved to get what was coming to him all the way to the very end of the book and that was what kept me along for the ride. of course, that wasn't to say that there weren't a couple of parts here and there that made me feel bad for him, but overall, I just wanted to see this guy fall off of his high horse and get his comeuppance. Like, I genuinely can't believe I'm saying this, but this was one of the few books where I'm glad that the main character was annoying and insufferable. I don't think I would have enjoyed this book as much as I did, had the character not been a complete dickhole.
In short, a pretty decent read, just what I needed for this month.
