El libro cuenta las aventuras que le sucedieron al periodista Jack Sparks durante sus últimos días de vida, mientras este trataba de investigar hechos sobrenaturales, fantasmas ...para incluirlos en su último libro , y poder demostrar si existen o no.
La novela es narrada por su hermano Ali, quien en conjunto con la editorial recopilan toda la información que su Jack transcribió a su portátil antes de morir en extrañas circunstancias.
El libro comienza contando una historia que sucedió cuando eran pequeños con un armario ropero, para así dar a conocer un poco más la persona que era Jack y poner en antecedentes sobre su forma de actuar.
Según van avanzando los capítulos vamos descubriendo un Jacob o Jack muy egocéntrico, egoísta y petulante. Una persona que siempre tiene que tener la razón, que no acepta más opiniones y verdades que las suyas...

2022 Horror Reading Challenge: Found Footage
Jack Sparks, suuuucccckkkkssss. Seriously this guy is the worst. You don’t like him, you don’t have anything in common with him, yet somehow as this book goes on, you start to feel for him. I credit that to this busy story, that weaves many complicated themes, and plot lines into a adventurous horror story.
This novel deals with a skeptic, Jack Sparks, and his journey to disprove the existence of the paranormal, for his new book. Things do not go well for him, and based off the title, we all know what happens to him at the end. The knowledge of his fate throughout this book, or basically his diary of his final days, really adds to the experience.
This story was a privilege to experience, and one I would recommend.

Maybe I will finish this eventually, but it is not doing it for me right now. I normally love horror books where the protagonist is a horrible, unlikable person, but I feel like this book is trying very hard to sell me on how funny and relatable he is but he is really just super grating and annoying. Also, a small nitpicky thing for me is that no one talked like that online in 2014 and it takes me right out. It feels like this book was written by a man who has never spoken to a millennial in his life, trying to appeal to millennials.
Contemporary horror - yes! This book had a great premise, but it just tried to do too much in my opinion and much of it was distracting. There were some really great parts to be fair - the way the end and the beginning were tied together - I loved that. The relationship between the brothers and what you DIDN'T know - great! Sly humor - wonderful! But a lot of it was just distracting and unneeded in my nonexpert opinion.
I was scared only for one moment, which did make the book worth it for me, the moment he locked eyes with girl in the exorcism.
Another reason, and maybe the main reason, this book just didn't do it for me, was that I listened to the audio book. Don't do that. Read it instead, I'm betting you'll enjoy it more.
