For the first maybe 30% of the book, I was thinking "haha this is kind of a silly book about a paranormal skeptic who writes satirical accounts of his experiences with the 'supernatural.'"

I really could not have been more wrong. When I tell you, my jaw was on the floor. This book twisted in ways I could have never imagined. Had you questioning the sanity of every character. Wondering what was real and what was fabricated. An unlikeable and unreliable narrator. Slow descent into the dark, deranged, and unhinged. Everything I love in a horror book. I just stared into space after I finished because I mean... Just wow.

Very interesting. The unreliable narrator is one of my favorite tropes. The arguing between brothers is very interesting to read and think about.

A masterclass in hating then slowly loving characters, and vice versa. Severe whiplash from shifting my perception of certain personalities. A+ on writing insufferable characters well.
