I couldn't put it down. It is disturbing and dark and enthralling and all-absorbing. Even in the darkest, world-ending time there is still love and hope.

I agree with other reviewers that if the goal of the author was to communicate weariness or some kind of bleak reality, it shouldn't have been done by making the book dull. In theory, I could see how a simple style, repetitions and reduced dialogue could have worked for a post-apocalyptic setting, it just didn't seem well-done to me.

In terms of the thin plot, if there was at least more psychological tension or more meaningful dialogues, it wouldn't have been a problem for me. But to me neither the language was nice nor the plot captivating enough.

This book bothered me greatly (Did the mother have a point? Was the prolonged suffering worth it? and to what end?) but I loved every cyclable
