It was first Afro fantasy book I've read and it's a shame that this setting is such a niche one. I loved every ounce of culture, atmosphere and life that just filled every page.
I think execution was a bit shaky in quality, there was a lot of "tell don't show". The villain was quite passive for majority of the story, the main goal of our heroes is a MacGuffin of unspecified power.
The topics of genocide and rape popped up quite abruptly and I was taken aback.
The pacing was questionable but I this book was such an unexpected discovery that I'm letting it slide. I would recommend it to my younger sister (if only she read more books).
