First off, THE COVER!

Told from Naala and Sinai's point of view; although at one it was told from someone else's view point (I think Ina)

I was naturally drawn to this book because I am a twin. I don't think I've read any books featuring twins (outside of Harry Potter).

I enjoyed this book. Seeing Naala and Sinai grow in their powers. I also enjoyed seeing the different dynamics of all the ladies in this book. The progression of the twins' story was kind of quick so I think some of the back story was rushed.

In book 2, I hope more is revealed about the old gods and the war.

I did not like how the ending was so rushed. Everything leading up to the twins reuniting was paced nicely. But once they finally met, it happened then it was over. Naala nor Sinai seemed at all disturbed with coming across a girl with her same face.

The demise of the Eze was anticlimactic as well. It seems like the twins defeated him by accident. They didn't even know what they were doing. I guess I was expecting a battle of some kind or for the Eze to be more powerful then he actually was. I mean he defeated the gods and the Earth Mother.

Despite the shortcomings of the end of the book, I am excited to read the next book. I hope it provides some clarity/background on the gods, the Eze, The Earth Mother, and the twins.

Almost a third through the book and absolutely nothing has happened. I have no enthusiasm to continue this book!

I enjoyed this though it took too long to build up for me. It could’ve been a lot stronger if things would’ve happened earlier especially given that there will be a sequel.

I wish I had more to say about this but I just really didn’t love this, I feel like it could’ve been so much better. The pacing for the story was off and slow. There were times when I would be reading and put the book down and not pick it back up because I wasn’t interested. I loved following the dual perspectives of Naala and Sinai, I hated the fact that they didn’t meet until more than 90% of the book. I was really anticipating the twins meeting and how they would react and what would happen but really nothing did. I’m not sure what book two would even be about because even at the end nothing really happened after they met. I liked the characters and the world building of this story but there’s more cons than pros for me. I think this book is setting up for book two but it doesn’t make me want to pick up the second book unfortunately.

The concept behind this was super interesting. I can't wait to read the next book! I enjoyed watching the evolution of how Ina and Sinai interacted. Wish I knew more about the background mythology so that I could have enjoyed this even more - on a deeper level. Guess I'll just have to remedy that and give it a reread!
