I loved Cross and Cameron in Armed and Dangerouse and when I release they had their own book I was excited. The beginig was great, a loved their chemestry, but I got disappointed quickly.
First Cam had very valid points for breaking up, I don't understand why was he apologizing for it. Secondly this was very much instant love, like Cross only fall in love because Cam wasn't afraid of him. I also found him a lot funnier and interesting in Armed and Dangerous.

A waiter's peaceful life is turned upside down when he falls for his darkly mysterious customer. Julian hits all my buttons - dangerous, lethal but is also complete cinnamon roll with a suprisingly vulnerable side. Cameron is a sweetheart, though his insecurity issues can be frustrating. I really liked the build-up to their romance - from the little interactions to acting upon the attraction simmering between them, though things moved pretty fast after that.

It's not a smooth journey, Julian has a lot of secrets and Cam doesn't always handle them well. But their romance is very heartfelt, with sweet, tender and angsty moments. Julian is so smitten, and is very protective of Cam. He's the total 🌟 of the book for me. I also enjoyed the action and the sidekicks (Blake! Preston!). Now onwards to more Julian/Cam (+ Ty/Zane 😍) in Cut & Run #5!

Piccola nota, molto carina secondo me.

September 2017

This is my second reading??

Damn. I totally don't remember reading this book at all. I was told that I should read this before moving on to book 5 of Cut and Run, and now I see that I've rated this already. Clearly, the first reading made zero impact because even at 76 pages in, this doesn't seem familiar at all. Weird.

Imma keep on reading but I do have one thing to say: why do the characters in these books have such awkward conversations?? No one speaks more than 10 words at a time and mostly never say what's on their mind. Instead, everything is all body language with clenched fists, flashing eyes, tight shoulders and half smiles. For crying out loud USE YOUR WORDS!

Final verdict: I was too generous with my original rating. I'm keeping it as is but, wow, this wasn't great.

Sorry, Rachel!!

*Update - Reread 2/21/15*

Though this can be read completely as a stand alone, I do recommend it before [b:Armed & Dangerous|13246997|Armed & Dangerous (Cut & Run, #5)|Abigail Roux|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1336877024l/13246997._SX50_.jpg|18447540] in the Cut & Run series. As the blurb says, Cameron is content and happy in his simple life. He makes good money, has great friends, and gets a big thrill weekly when his enigmatic crush comes to sit in his section every Tuesday.

Cameron is drawn to this dark, quiet, broody stranger, and it seems fortuitous when one night, Julian offers to walk him home. What ensues is a passionate affair, but there are many secrets that Julian has. Does Cameron walk away or accept that there are some things he may never know, things he might not want to know?

Atmospheric, romantic, fraught with tension - a beautiful love story between two men trying to reconcile telling the truth and knowing the truth. There are consequences when they attempt to bridge their disparate lives despite the many reasons they shouldn't. The question is, is it worth it? Absolutely.

" Preston fired into the air, and it scared him. The dog, not Preston. And then he ran off to go find Blake and left me there. Bleeding. Preston did. Not the dog,” he told Cameron very seriously. “And then Blake laughed at me.”

The end of the book left me aching for more, more scenes between Cameron and Julian, more of the gentleness with which Julian touches Cameron, more of Julian's sense of humour.
But most of all I wanted to get to know the two of them better. After three hundred pages I still felt as if I hardly knew them.
Alas, I came to the last page. No next page to come, no secret sequel for this book.
Sometimes I think I should stop reading on the second last page, so I won't reach that dreaded yet yearned for last page.

When I read the words funeral I stopped reading momentarily because no, that couldn't be true, please don't let it be true. Surely this is part of Julian's plan. I simply clung to the shred of hope that came from the fact that I was only through 87% of the book.
This book is great, I won't stop wishing for a sequel anytime soon, altough my hopes for that are withering away as I write. The only thing I missed while reading it was that I couldn't seem to get much closer to the characters and the wish that I would get to know them better and find out more about them, aboit their past and why they are the way they are pretty much died on that last page. Fair enough, there was information about them, glimpses into Julian's past, but not enough to satisfy my curiosity.
That was probably because I developed a small crush on Julian along with Cameron observing him in the restaurant.

I read Warrior's Cross because the characters cross over for a cameo in the Cut & Run series (which I am loving) and I didn't want to miss any backstory. Sadly I was disappointed with WC and found it boring...painfully so. Absolutely nothing happens until about the 75% mark. The story is character and relationship driven - which I usually love - especially when there is lots of snappy dialogue (which there wasn't) ...but I have to love the characters (and I didn't).

I really couldn't get excited about either Cam or Julian - they (like their story) were both sort of boring. Cameron, a waiter at an upscale restaurant is rather dull. He is quiet, unassuming, fairly reserved and doesn't have much of a life outside of his work (which he seems to enjoy far more than what should be considered healthy). He does have 4 Westie puppies - which should endear him to me; but the puppies are more of a prop to possibly give him more character - which they don't. (Either that or he's the worst, most neglectful pet owner ever). Throughout the story lots of people ask "Why Cam? What DOES Julian see in him"? I was asking the same question - and it was never answered.

Then there's Julian, also very quiet, soft spoken and reserved...but dangerous. Sort of. To some people. He does something mysterious - which he can't/won't talk about. People are afraid of him (just by looking at him). It makes him sad. Then Cam starts to become afraid of him...actually Cam is afraid...he'll get hurt because of Julian's inability/unwillingness to share himself...I think that's it. There's lots of cryptic conversations...and Cam is pretty much a door mat - but then he doesn't want to know. It was rather annoying all the cat and mouse tip toeing around; I really wanted Cam to just straight up front ask Jules "What is it you do for work - specifically and exactly - in detail"???? (FYI when the book ends we still don't know).

Then the last quarter of the story - something happens - but it's not "all that". The plot is improbable. (I mean don't get me wrong - the plot of the Cut & Run series is generally pretty implausible as well - but it's FUN - there's lots of action, things get blown up, the MCs are actually interesting and have great chemistry and the sex is hot). In WC - not so much. There is one sex scene btw - which sadly was so underwhelming - I can't remember any details so I can't even comment on whether or not it was explicit. Also - nothing gets blown up.

I honestly don't think I would have kept reading if I weren't so intent on not missing any backstory.
