I wanted to enjoy this book more than I did, but the temptation to stop altogether was there. However, I have an addiction to reading and always finishing what I started, so I was hoping the story hooked me the further the book progressed. Unfortunately, that moment never did arrive.

Temptation comes in many forms and while Bailey is a recovering drug addict her need to not get evicted from her apartment outweighs the temptation of working in a nightclub where she's surrounded by temptation every night, but the biggest temptation of all is the owner of the club.

Drew knows all about Bailey's past, but he gives her a second chance at life having been there himself. He has a strict no drug policy in his club, but as hard has he tries to keep it out, he also knows nothing is 100 percent. However, right now his biggest concern is to keep an eye on his newest employee, which isn't a hardship, what will be is keeping his hands to himself, as she becomes his biggest temptation.

I had trouble finding the connection between Drew and Bailey, even after setting the story down thinking it was just holiday stress, but after picking it back up I still couldn't connect with their chemistry. I secretly kept hoping Bailey would form something more with her friend Carter, even though he has his own deep issues with addiction and had friendzoned Bailey as well.

What I did enjoy about the story is that it didn't gloss over addiction. Addiction is hard and doesn't go away overnight. It takes hard work and constant upkeep. Showing that Bailey, even after two years, is working on her recovery is a good thing because addiction isn't something that magically goes away after the drugs leave your system. It is a lifelong process of help, readjusting and having the support you need in your life.

Tempted
By: Ava Harrison
Narrated by: Joe Arden, Andi Arndt

When faced with temptation or being evicted, Bailey chooses to work in the local night club. Two years sober, she does her best to do her job well and make it through another day clean. Drew, the owner of the club has his own demons. Fraternizing with the help is not on his agenda, but there is something about Bailey he cannot resist. Ava Harrison weaves a story emotionally driven with a few twists that keep us on the edge. Bailey is a phenomenal character. She is stronger than she thinks as she deals with her addiction and her budding relationship. Drew is complex and his past keeps him intriguing. The secondary characters add a lot of additional layers which add that bit of angst that I love about her books. It's gritty, real and the romance off the charts.

Narrated by Andi Arndt and Joe Arden, the story flows with ease. This seasoned team knows how to make their characters bleed emotion and heal taking us with them on the journey. It was an emotionally charged listen and wonderful narration.

The summary doesn't do this book justice. Surprisingly, a very solid read. If you don't dig too deep into the character arcs, you can just enjoy this book for what it is which is an exciting/suspenseful love story. I really enjoyed this book and I can see myself picking it up again to read it in the future.

Neither good nor bad, but it almost felt like it ended twice. The story felt like it came to a complete close twice, within 100 pages. Both times the heroine faces near death. Both times the main heroine forgives too easily.

One additional oddity was Drew said "never run out on me" when fighting- stay and fix it. And what does this girl do the whole damn rest of the book? Runs away. *eyeroll*

Ava Harrison writes about hot topics as addiction and recovery with honest and true portrayals. Bailey and Drew both have demons to slay but it is whether or not they will allow each other to help them through their battles that brings the characters and storyline to the fore front. With each turn of the page and each chapter that is read the readers come away with the emotional struggle to stay clean and move ahead. Add in there the hot and heavy romance between two unlikely souls and you have yourself a masterpiece. Excellent read that I highly recommend.

This was just okay for me. The blurb didn't match the story in my opinion, I wasn't expecting a story with a tough subject matter. The story seemed to drag a lot, and I skimmed to get through some parts. Bailey wasn't my favorite as a heroine, and her sister was horrible. I kind of felt sorry for her with Harper, but it was her own fault for not standing up for herself. Drew had a hero complex, and it was weird to me that the only reason he's attracted to Bailey was because she reminded him of someone else. Honestly I felt like Bailey and Carter had more meaningful conversations than her and Drew. While I wasn't a fan of this one, I have enjoyed this author's other books, so I will be reading her again.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.

Didn’t love this but didn’t hate this either?? I don’t think I’ve ever read anything with a recovering addict for a FMC and I loved that aspect. But the MMC irked me multiple times throughout this book and then suddenly did a 180 at the end. Definitely not the spiciest read either, all those scenes were very quick and surface level.

Drew has a past and has been working hard to put it behind him. With his club Silver doing well he is hoping to branch out into the restaurant business. An associate of his Cal calls him regarding a property he is interested in and agrees that he can secure it for him as long as he offers his fiancée’s sister a job at Silver.

For the past two years, Bailey has been sober, a wake-up call sending her to NA she is attempting to take control of her life. Forced to leave her previous job and an eviction notice on her flat she is desperate. Taking a job at Silver is not the ideal place for an addict but needs must. She settles into the job well, although her boss Drew is paying her special attention and soon promotes her to work in the VIP rooms and then as his assistant.

Hooking up with your boss is always a no-no but as a recovering addict, it can make it difficult to distinguish lust and love – replacing one addiction with another. Finding out about past demons as well as a one night stand that won’t go away they face a very rocky road – can this be anything more than temptation?

Addiction is a very sensitive and personal subject. We had the opportunity to watch several of the characters at different stages spiralling, hitting rock bottom and then battling to fight their way out of the darkness. Their struggles were raw and real and at times painful to watch. I wasn’t a fan of Drew at the start of this story, but he wormed his way into my heart by the end. This was an emotionally charged read that had me experiencing the character’s pain and vulnerability.

There is so much going on in this book. I was a bit conflicted. Like why would a recovering addict work in a bar around so much temptation? I know it was the only choice. There were parts to this where it dragged on and others where it needed to keep going to help build the character. They both have survivors guilt but she has a few more skeletons in her closet. Their love was a slow burn even though it might seem like insta-lust.
Overall good book. It's not steamy like others but still a good read.

Bailey and Drew's story was interesting, but definitely not what I expected, Bailey is a character that needs to pull her life back together, she has a past that had her going into some problems and she is now recovering. Drew is a club owner, they both connect and so they fight it but still can't help their attraction. They both have their own dragons and baggage so you will find yourself in an emotional roller-coaster trying to figure how these two can finally get together. The topics approached in the book might not be for everyone but they are certainly part of real-life and so I really like the way the author approaches the subjects. Definitely one you want to read if you love Ava Harrison books.
