This was a slow burn, it could be because of the topic and it’s not something that shouldn be rushed.
Addiction is an enticing mistress and it’s so easy to fall off the wagon. Bailey who is so strong in the face of such temptation. Drew was a bit of a dark knight.
Generally a good read and not what I expected from Ava.

Tempted was a book I expected to love after adoring the author’s Tarnished Empire, but I had trouble with this one. In truth, by the end of it, I just wanted it to be over and was rounding my rating up.
Tempted had the potential to be a powerful read, hitting hard with the topics included in the book. Sadly, I did not care for the characters and my emotional connection never appeared. In fact, I would go so far as to say both characters were unlikeable, and the endless drama was too much. Add in the fact it was clear from early on how everything was going to go, and I felt like I was ticking a checklist as the story progressed. Sure, I was curious about the specifics; however, there was nothing to make me love this one.
I’m sure Tempted will work for many, but it failed to pack the punch of my prior Ava Harrison read.

I knew that Bailey was a recovering addict when I picked this book up, but I wasn't expecting just how much that fact would affect the story. I did find the way that addition was handled in this book to be pretty well done. Bailey is actively in recovery and attends NA meetings (she's 2 years sober at the beginning of the story). We see staying sober is a struggle for her, at times, but Drew's love doesn't 'fix' her. I do wish we would have gotten a bit more build up with Bailey and Drew's relationship. It felt like as soon as they were alone at work they just couldn't keep their hands off each other and the relationship grew from there. I really liked Bailey's friendship with her coworker but it felt like as soon as she and Drew got together, we didn't get much of her outside relationships. I also wanted more from Bailey's sister and her fiance since they were a key reason why Bailey ended up working at Silver in the first place. I did like Drew and Bailey together and thought that their chemistry was really well developed but I would have liked more development in other parts of the story as well.

The summary doesn't do this book justice. Surprisingly, a very solid read. If you don't dig too deep into the character arcs, you can just enjoy this book for what it is which is an exciting/suspenseful love story. I really enjoyed this book and I can see myself picking it up again to read it in the future.
Neither good nor bad, but it almost felt like it ended twice. The story felt like it came to a complete close twice, within 100 pages. Both times the heroine faces near death. Both times the main heroine forgives too easily.
One additional oddity was Drew said "never run out on me" when fighting- stay and fix it. And what does this girl do the whole damn rest of the book? Runs away. *eyeroll*

**I received this book as an ARC in return for my honest review**
This was such a beautiful story, filled with raw emotions and struggle. It’s a story about choosing love, about choosing hope, about handling addiction, about handling grief, about handling life. I struggled now and then with Bailey not wanting to talk to Drew but choosing other ways of dealing with their struggles, but I also could understand how she felt. I’m glad Drew realised when he needed to push a little and when to give space. I would’ve loved to read more about Carter’s story that we got a peek into, but who knows, maybe in another book!
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥.5
