This book is a technical wonder, but 1006 pages is a lot of wonder

I knew I liked Clarke’s writing but I absolutely got swepted into this book. Yes we don’t meet a pivotal character until about 200 pages in and it’s over 1000 pages long. But it reads like an iceberg and I wanted to know more about the characters and the lore.
Clarke is a master of prose and character development. I’ll probably re-read. Definitely one of my favorite reads.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is pretty slow and I can understand the pacing comments but the writing is wonderful and clever. For some reason I went in to it with almost Harry Potter visions of Magicians and Wizards running around London with wands flicking magic spells everywhere. Took me some time to reset my expectations when I realised this was not going to be that type of book.

At 1006 pages, it's quite the beast. 100-200 pages must be foot notes which add huge amount of flavour/depth to the story.

The characters were very well fleshed out as was the story.

This book has been on my TBR for almost 10 months now and I can finally tick it off and watch the TV show version now which I had been avoiding until I had read the book,

Solid 4 star from me.

Beautifully written

Meh. It was a unique story, and interestingly written ... But it was also super dense and oftentimes hard to read.

There are multiple plots happening at once, and they all seem to be very disjointed until the last couple chapters. That made it very difficult to follow or understand the scene changes or why information or stuff was happening and why it was important.
