- Saying this book is slow paced is an understatement. Mixing this slow pace with overly complex characters makes this book almost unbearable. It feels like this brilliant novel was published only in its first or second draft. It needed another read through, a bit more chopping here and refining there. Some of the main plot lines needed the red yarn connected from one thumbtack to another. -

You have to prepare yourself for a long read, but in my opinion it is absolutely worth it. This book is an amazing journey and the fact that it was Susanna Clarke's debut still blows my mind.
This is a re-read, first read when I was a teenager and able to power through a 1000 page book in a week or so. It certainly took me longer this time around, and there's so much to take in it sometimes gets overwhelming, but it paints such a full and wonderful picture of the world and magic and fairy that I can forgive the slow pacing. This isn't a book to be binged, it's a book to be absorbed slowly, steadily, as if you're lounging in a bath letting it sink into your skin. I loved it.

Not my kind of book. A little too quaint and silly for me to fully empathize with the characters and become immersed. A tad long.

Crea un mundo paralelo a la realidad que poco a poco se va entremezclando hasta el punto de que la magia acaba llenándolo todo.
Se disfruta mucho lo que hace la autora en este gran libro, grandes personajes en una trama magnifica. Me encanto de todas las maneras posibles. Formidable, una larga historia que te cuesta un poco, pero te engancha totalmente. Vale la pena leerlo en un largo plazo y meterte en la historia poco a poco.

To be honest, this is deserving of five stars. Masterfully done & so unique. 4.5 for me personally, mostly because it’s a bit of a beast of a book to get through & I did the unforgivable sin (I watched the show first) which made me slightly less able to be swept up at times. Having read it now I have to say, I think the show did a really great job. So many fantasy adaptations are absolute duds but I think the show had an honorable go of it.

A fabulous book set in a not quite historical time. Quite a compelling set of characters and an amazing bit of worldbuilding and a tone throughout that engulfs the reader in an extraordinary tale. If those adjectives are insufficient, let me me say simply - a great book well worth the read.
