Read for ByoB

The Prologue hurt my heart, so from the very beginning I was in love with Captain Gabriel Hastings. I needed to know how he was going to heal, so I was held captive from beginning to end. Gabe makes the pain stop with whiskey and his new job. But sex and alcohol only mask what is going on with him:

"I was lost, broken, and had a whole the size of Texas in my heart."

That is until fate intervenes he quite literally runs into an "angel." Autumn Jones, the girl who thought she was going to have it all. She married the man who swept her off her feet, he was wealthy, provided all of the material things she could ever want, but he was the master of manipulation. Autumn was treated like a possession and lived under his strict ruling.

It was an act of fate that theses two met when they did. Autumn had finally had enough and Gabe was ready to live again. They had instant chemistry and attraction to each other was hard to deny. Their journey was not always easy, leaving her husband would be no small feat. Control was only the tip of the iceberg, Richard's reach went a whole lot further than his investment business. Gabe thought he had his chance at a happily ever after and the nightmares of what happened still haunted him.

I loved Gabe, who wouldn't love a broken, green eyed, bald head, beast? I didn't love Autumn as much but she was a perfect counterpart. I enjoyed the secondary characters and the conversations and plot flowed easily. I thought the conflict was resolved a little too easily but it was unexpected. I hope that the future holds a story for the best friend because Jackson might have also found his way into my heart.

What an amazing story of survival. Gabe suffered a devastating loss while in Afghanistan. He is barely living. He is barely functioning. His job at Saddles & Racks is his release. He and his friend transfer to the Las Vegas site and life goes on until he meets her.

Autumn used to live, but now she survives. The love of her life, Rich, changed after the rings were on. Now he tracks her. Now he restricts her activities. Now he hurts her. She is at a loss until he meets him.

Who knew that getting a cup of coffee could change their worlds. Who knew that accidental meetings could happen again and again. Who knew that old acquaintances be so influential in your future.

Angels and Whiskey had so much drama. I kept flipping pages needing to know when the other shoe would drop. So many uncomfortable moments. It was a great insight into what might be happening right under ones own nose. Victims become sneaky in order to survive.

Angels and Whiskey was a love story with numerous complications and a beautiful ending. If two characters really deserved a fantastic forever it is Gabe and Autumn.

We meet Gabe as a Captain in the MedicVac unit and his soon to fiancé, Alyssa Cochran while the country is at war. During a Medivac call, Alyssa is shot and wounded.

Autumn, a teller at a bank meets Rich, a military veteran. They’ve been dating 6 months and it’s their first Valentine’s Day. He sent her two dozen roses while she was at work then gave her more flowers when he picked her up for their date at 7pm. Autumn and Rich marry after six months. After 3 years of marriage, Autumn has had enough and tells Brandi, her bff that Rich hits her but she can’t leave because he has “people”.

This book was my first by Ms..Knight but certainly not my last in this series. I loved Gabe, Autumn, Paul and Brandi.
I can’t wait to read more of this series. I highly recommend this book

I hate that I didn't love this. I really wanted to. I think it's just the thing I struggle with New Adult genre. I'm a character driven reader and when I don't connect, like, or understand the characters, I typically don't enjoy the story. It doesn't mean the story is bad, just means it's not for me.

Gabe was okay but creepy. I agreed with his friend Jackson on that part. And Major Dick was awful. He was just too over the top typical "bad guy." If I'd felt like Autumn was a solid character, someone that I understood and liked, she may have been enough to carry the plot and story, but she wasn't for me.

Good.

I really liked both Gabe and Autumn but not really sure I liked all the coincidences in this story. It kept my attention and I definitely want to read more in the series.

Thanks Netgalley for a copy to read and review.

Whew! Where do I start. That cover was absolutely eye catching, not to mention the blurb that caught my eye. I wanted to four star this but too many things were pulling me back. The flashback POV was mildly irritating, one chapter would have Autumns POV and then immediately the next scene was Gabes POV of the same scene. So it was like recapping the same scene, just switching views. I found this unnecessary, it didn't make me feel any more chemistry between the characters. Then there were too many stories within a story. The main part was Gabe losing his love to an attack in Afghanistan, from then on he becomes a male escort after he leaves the military.
Autumn is stuck in a marriage where her husband, Rich is a control freak, and he likes to grab her and leave bruises. She realizes that she needs to leave him. Rich is trying to get her pregnant and wants to run for mayor. Autumn makes a perfect trophy wife for him, obeying him in all things. If Rich wasn't seriously violent, then I'm not sure why she hasn't left him already, and it felt like she was making excuses.
Autumn meets Gabe and decides she could leave Rich. Weak female lead with yet another alpha male. I understand where this was trying to go, I just wasn't really happy with it. That being said.... I would read another by this author. Three stars of entertainment.

The premise for a great series is here. The author didn't quite hold my attention, but I really liked the characters. The fact that it's set in my hometown attracted me to the story, and I'll read the next if only for that. I see progress, and I like that in a new author.
