This was a great start to the series and I'm excited to continue it! This a great horror manga for beginners to the horror genre like me.

Wow! Even though I had already watched the anime, it still kept me entertained.

Loved everything about it, the story the artwork. I know I’m probably too old for manga at 38 but it’s just addictive. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

An exciting, gruesome, scary, but also awesome manga!

So first up a confession. I tried this series as the anime first… however it didn’t work for me. I just cannot handle gore that well. But since I bought 2 volumes of the manga for my husband (he can handle gore) I thought I would just see if the manga was better for me. The answer is yes. It is still a bit eww at times, but I could stomach it better.

In this manga we meet bookish Kaneki, a sweet boy who is definitely not ready for what is about to come for him (then again, I think no one would be ready). He is about to go on a date with a girl named Rize (who even in the anime before I knew what was going to happen I found very suspect). I knew what was going to happen. This is how far I watched the anime after all. XD My heart just broke for Kaneki. All he wanted was a fun date with a girl who loves books as much he did and instead the night ends with him almost dead and Rize… well, Rize is now partially in him. Thank the doctors who apparently didn’t know she was a ghoul (you would think that people somehow would see something wrong with the insides given what ghouls eat, but I guess not.

We see how this affects Kaneki. I thought it was really awesome that he just tried to keep his normality. That he didn’t want to succumb to being a half ghoul. That he wanted to moral and not eat meat from humans. But we see how hard it is. How with each page his body is collapsing more and more. It gets tougher to go outside. His eye turns into the ghoul mode. He struggles to not drool as he just wants to eat some yummy food. My heart broke for him. Kaneki is such a sweet guy. So happy he was safe and healthy and then one finds out that you are something else entirely now.

Though I also have to be honest, by the end of the volume I just wished he would eat some meat, because the way things were going… he would turn into something he doesn’t want to turn into.

I loved also meeting the other ghouls. Well. For most. That swaggy dude who is quite territorial and a dick… not a fan. But I loved Touka and Yoshimura. I loved that despite Touka’s feelings on things she did try to help out Kaneki. I loved how Yoshimura took Kaneki under his wings at the end of the volume and I am definitely curious for the next volume now~

Yes, I will be reading this one further. I need to know more about Ghouls. What they are. How everything works.

I would recommend this one if you like action, gore, and a pretty good plot! And good art~
